HomeMy WebLinkAboutNurse Health Department ChairJanuary 2007 TITLE: School Nurse, Health Services Department Chair QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Idaho Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with School Nurse endorsement. Valid Idaho driver’s license. Must have own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed by the district. Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To assist in providing education opportunities for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and assisting in creating a climate of health and well-being in district schools. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts Department meetings as needed. Maintains and submits data for Medicaid billing for nursing services provided to eligible students. Provides health screenings, health counseling, and instruction regarding health related subjects in the classroom as requested by school staff. Provides care to students who become ill or are injured on school property, on buses, or in areas adjacent to the school premises. Responds in a timely manner to emergency calls from any District # 91 school. Assists administrators to assure student immunization status complies with state law Provides training to appropriate staff on procedures for the administration of medication to students as prescribed by a physician and assists with managing student medication as requested. Conducts staff development in health related areas when requested. Monitors and maintains adequate health room supplies for health office(s) with the exception of Special Design classrooms and the Skyline High School health office. Participates in the development of job descriptions and training programs for Health Services Staff. Supervises specific tasks that are delegated to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). Participates in IEP Team and Student Assistance Team meetings when requested by an administrator. Evaluates health history forms provided by parents to assist in identifying students with medical needs who may need special accommodations at school. Develops health plans when requested by the child study team, except for students in Special Design Programs. Acts as contact person for physicians and health agencies. Reports communicable disease outbreak to the Superintendent, Director of Student Services, and the District VII Health Department. Promotes good health practices through communication with students, parents and staff as time allows. Refers eligible students to homebound services. Supports wellness programs such as influenza vaccines, blood draws, and blood pressure checks. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
