TITLE: School Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with School Nurse endorsement.
Valid Idaho driver’s license.
Must have own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed by the district.
Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Prior experience in a medical setting preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement
Test.
To assist in providing education opportunities for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and assisting in creating a climate of health and well-being in district
schools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains and submits data for Medicaid billing for nursing services provided to eligible students.
Understands the special needs of nursing in an education setting.
Provides health screenings and health counseling as requested by school staff.
Is willing to work in an education model.
Provides care to students who become ill or are injured on school property, on buses, or in areas adjacent to the school premises.
Responds in a timely manner to emergency calls from any District # 91 school.
Provides education/instruction regarding health related subjects in Special Design and Skyline High School classrooms upon request.
Assists administrators to assure student immunization status complies with state law
Provides training to staff on procedures for the administration of medication to students when prescribed by a physician and assists with administering medication as requested.
Supervises LPNs as requested.
Monitors and maintains adequate health room supplies for assigned buildings.
Participates in IEP Team and Student Assistance Team meetings when requested by an administrator or case manager.
Evaluates health history forms provided by parents to assist in identifying students with medical needs who may need accommodations.
Develops health plans when requested by a student’s IEP team.
Promotes good health practices through communication with students, parents and staff as time allows.
Supports district wellness programs such as influenza vaccines, blood draws, and blood pressure checks.
Attends Department meetings.
When requested by the school administrator or the parents, serves as the contact person for physicians and health agencies for assigned students.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a nurse, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will
be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
*Special Design Programs in School District 91 are as follows: Bridges (SHS and IFHS), Crossroads (Eagle Rock), Gateways (Temple View), DACC (Hawthorne, Ethel Boyes, Eagle Rock), Pathways
(Edgemont), Pre School (Innovative Center, Fox Hollow, Bunker)
