QUALIFICATIONS: A registered dietician (R.D. or R.D. eligible) with specialization in Administrative/Management dietetics and four years experience in food service, two of which have been at the supervisory level in a large scale feeding operation or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Institutional Management, Foods and Nutrition, or Dietetics, and five years experience in food service, two of which have been at the supervisory level in a large scale feeding operation or appropriate experience in food service management and nutrition, preferably in School Lunch, may be substituted on a year for academic year basis for the required education, subject to Board approval. Possess a current Food Handlers Card. Ability to work with staff, students and the public. Strong math and communication skill Willingness to try new ideas. Physically able to perform assigned duties. Strong money handling skills. Computer skills. Strong telephone skills. Ability to complete required paperwork. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. III. REPORTS TO: Director HR and Finance. IV. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To provide each student with food of high nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring. V. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Purchases and maintains an inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment. Oversees the planning and reviews menus for school lunches and special catered events; plans nutritious menus of food items popular with school age children. Interviews and employs all child nutrition employees. Administers personnel policy as established by the District including assignment, evaluation and dismissal of child nutrition employees. Reviews and approves all child nutrition payroll timecards. Reviews all bills and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them to the Purchasing and Accounting Clerk to prepare for payment. Plans use of government commodities as part of the ongoing child nutrition program. Coordinates all catering and subsequent billing. Checks all government reimbursements and commercial rebates for timeliness and accuracy. Visits all lunchrooms and cafeterias whenever possible, ensuring that high standards of health, sanitation, and safety are being maintained. Observes and recommends improvements in operations. Maintains accurate inventory of all foods, supplies and equipment. Supervises the planning and preparation of any special meals required for District sponsored functions. Informs the public through the local press and the internet of planned menus on a monthly basis. Prepares and revises specifications and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids by law or Board policy. Assists Coordinator of Business Functions in management and control of fiscal resources and development of budget. Coordinates food service program with educational programs when needed. Collects, compiles and utilizes appropriate operational data to improve efficiency, productivity, and effectiveness of child nutrition program. Keeps abreast of new products, new nutritional and school food service related information. Maintains extra-professional affiliations as is pertinent. Knows and administers nutritional guidelines for the District’s child nutrition program in accordance with Board Policy and federal guidelines. Administers the summer feeding program as needed. Evaluates the performance of child nutrition employees. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Takes daily deposit to bank as needed. B. Performs all other duties as assigned. VI. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is scheduled for eight hours per day, 260 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 15. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Coordinator of Business Functions in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
