Ability to work with staff, students and the public. Physically capable of performing assigned tasks. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Ten to fifteen years of experience in custodial procedures and equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. III: REPORTS TO: Director of Operations IV. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To maintain the physical school facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety, so that full educational use of them may be made at all times. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Possess the knowledge of custodial tasks and procedures including but not limited to the following: mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors and furniture; vacuuming and extracting carpets; assembling, disassembling furniture; sweeping and cleaning walks; removing snow in accordance with District policy; proper equipment maintenance. Participates in cleaning and custodial activities. Performs emergency fixture and fire extinguishers checks. Inspects each building every other month for cleanliness and reviews results with the Principal and Head Custodian. Performs follow-up inspections as required. Screens and interviews custodial applicants and offers hiring recommendations. Monitors the district’s inventory of custodial equipment and makes procurement decisions on new equipment based on need and budget. Leads the effort to procure custodial supplies and monitors their use to ensure conformance to safety and recommended practices. Works with district warehouse supervisor to determine needs. Works with the Environmental Safety and Health Specialist to assure the Safety Data Sheets are kept up to date and accessible to custodial staff. Recommends program changes to district administration based on current and future custodial needs. Coordinates training and informational meetings for the custodial staff as needed Familiarizes new employees with District policy and ensures that these policies are carried out. Maintains current custodial training and procedure programs. Sets up on line training courses through Safeschools. Coordinates and serves on custodial and safety committees as requested. Coordinates and participates in the summer cleaning at the elementary and secondary level providing help and training. Hire and organize extra summer help according to needs. Coordinates equipment moves between buildings. Checks progress and identifies problems Hires sub custodians and organizes their placement in buildings tracking the hours worked. Maintains a record of training provided by Head Custodians to ensure proper training of the custodial staff has been completed. Acts as the supervisor for district level custodians, summer cleaning and outsourced custodial activities. Coordinates the secondary gym refinishing. Provides bids and schedules times for completion. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the District and budgetary constraints. Monday through Friday is considered to be the normal workweek. Emergency conditions may arise which will require attention at any hour of the day or night. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 12. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated monthly by the Director of Operations in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of heavy duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
