Mechanical aptitude. Physically capable of performing assigned tasks. Ability to work with staff, students and the public. Supervisory skills. Capable of lifting up to 55 pounds. Knowledge of custodial procedures and equipment. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. III: REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. IV. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To maintain the physical school facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety, so that full educational use of them may be made at all times. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Is responsible for the routine adjustments, servicing and programmed maintenance of heating, ventilating, lighting, and other building equipment. Maintains and services gas, coal, electric or other type of heating or air conditioning systems. Makes minor and routine adjustments to heating and ventilating equipment, clears and services pumps and filters, conducts tests of the equipment in the entire system for operational efficiency. Assigns, supervises, and inspects the work of the building’s custodial staff in tasks, including but not limited to the following: mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors and furniture; washing windows; assembling, disassembling and moving furniture; sweeping and cleaning walks; removing snow in accordance with District policy; and keeping equipment and premises in a clean and orderly condition. Participates in cleaning and custodial activities as necessary. Makes minor plumbing repairs to toilets, showers, basins, drains, and drinking fountains. Makes minor electrical repairs; replaces fuses, light bulbs, switches, and outlets. Performs minor painting and carpentry tasks. Reports major repair and maintenance work as needed. May be required to assist maintenance personnel on some repairs. Receives school furniture orders. Supervises and participates in the furniture assembly. Orders custodial equipment and supplies, distributes to custodial staff and monitors their use. Keeps time records for full-time and part-time custodial staff. Maintains daily log sheets concerning temperature, oil consumption, water pressure, water loss, chemical balance within the system and any other pertinent data to assure efficient and proper functioning of the heating and air conditioning system and emergency lighting system. Interviews custodial applicants and make hiring recommendations. Orients and trains new custodial personnel. Familiarizes new employees with District policy and takes responsibility to see that these policies are carried out. Completes annual performance evaluations on custodial staff. Checks building on weekends. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week, 260 days per year. Monday through Friday is considered to be the normal workweek. Emergency conditions may arise which will require attention at any hour of the day or night. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 10. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated quarterly by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of heavy duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
