HomeMy WebLinkAboutRoving CustodianJuly 2017 TITLE: Roving Custodian QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma preferred. Read and write at a minimum of a 9th grade level. Physically capable of performing assigned tasks. Able to work with staff, students and the public. Mechanical aptitude. Capable of lifting up to 55 pounds. Knowledge of custodial procedures and equipment. Clean driving record, no traffic tickets or chargeable accidents for the last three years. The ability to work independently and on short notice in any custodial assignment. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Custodial Services Coordinator JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To maintain the physical school facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety, so that full educational use may be made at all times. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Keeps building and premises including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean. Participates in cleaning and custodial activities such as mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors and furniture; washing windows; sanitizing and deodorizing fixtures, sweeping and cleaning walks; removing snow in accordance with District policy; and keeping the equipment and premises in a clean and orderly condition. Participates in building activities as necessary (e.g. fire drills, lockdowns, assemblies, etc.) Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, injured and ill students, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues. Immediately reports any damage to school property, equipment malfunction and maintenance work needed to supervisor. Remains on school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the supervisor. May be responsible for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off before leaving the building. Moves furniture and equipment within the building as required for various activities and as directed by supervisor. Substitutes in the district warehouse as a courier and delivers mail and supplies. Is familiar with District policy and procedure and takes responsibility to see that they are followed. Completes all required training on equipment, procedures, etc. Assists with the assembly and delivery of school furniture orders as directed. Has regular and predictable attendance. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time position scheduled for 205 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 5. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Custodial Services Coordinator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of heavy duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
