HomeMy WebLinkAboutDirector of OperationsFebruary 2012 TITLE: Director of Operations QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in management with an emphasis in facilities management preferred. Previous supervisory experience required with demonstrated history of effective team building preferred. Knowledge in the various skilled and semi-skilled work that is involved in the operations of the district’s facilities and grounds. Proficiency in the use of the computer and an understanding of the application of technology in the operations department. Strong organizational skills. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work with staff, students and the public. Ability to set priorities and make decisions involving the Operations Department. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Superintendent JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Establishes and administers schedules and procedures for the maintenance, custodial, warehouse, energy, environmental, safety, grounds and transportation departments. Create procedure manuals for the operations department. Conducts audits to measure the effectiveness of the operations department and the satisfaction of end users. Manages the operations department supplies and equipment budget. Serves as an advisor regarding plant facilities fund expenditures. Recruits, screens, and recommends workers for hiring or termination, and supervises the training and cross training of all workers necessary to the operations department. Establishes and recommends priorities on repair and maintenance projects, effectively utilizing the work order system. Estimates cost of repair and maintenance projects in terms of labor, material and overhead. Assigns and supervises operations crews. Plans and inspects all work projects as necessary. Develops a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency. Prepares reports on costs of work done, materials used, and labor expended, and completes all other required paperwork. Orders materials as needed, and makes purchase recommendations of supplies and equipment. Oversees the establishment of regular preventive maintenance programs. Maintains such personnel and other records as required. Completes annual performance evaluations on operations employees. Advises on the hiring of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repair services. Participate in the development of specifications for bidding purposes and obtains quotes and bids for jobs in compliance with Idaho Code and Board Policy. Develop a constructive communication system to establish interdepartmental cooperation and team work. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, 255 days per year. Monday through Friday is considered the normal workweek. Emergency conditions may arise that will require attention at any hour of the day or night. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
