HomeMy WebLinkAboutHVAC SpecialistJanuary 2011 TITLE: HVAC Technician QUALIFICATIONS: Proficiency in the operation of steam generating equipment in a low-pressure steam heating plant, and closed systems hot water heating. Experience or knowledge in repairing and maintaining air conditioning and water source heat pump systems. Proficiency in maintaining pneumatic control systems. Proficiency in maintaining proper water chemistry in open (steam and cooling water) and closed loop systems. Experience with Victaulic and welded piping systems preferred. Ability to perform good, programmed maintenance of equipment and systems. High School Diploma preferred. Physically capable of performing assigned tasks. Ability to work with staff, students and the public. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. The following licenses and certifications are preferred: State of Idaho HVC license, journeyman plumber license, refrigerant license, welding certificate. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Repairs low pressure gas boilers; adjusts feed water and hot well pumps; observes gauges and adjusts equipment to maintain required steam pressure and proper water levels. Periodically records gauge readings concerning plant operational data indicating oil consumption, steam flow, water loss and other information. Installs boilers, furnaces, makeup air units, heat pumps, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, etc. Repairs circulating pumps; maintains spray control towers; maintains and replaces fuses in boilers; balances fans. Monitors the operation of boilers as required, adds chemicals to boiler feed-water as necessary; checks and repairs air compressors, motors, pumps, steam systems, and other equipment. Performs maintenance and emergency repairs on pumps and motors; maintains and repairs related plant equipment. Adjusts, installs and conducts frequent inspections of temperature controls. Monitors building HVAC parameters through energy management systems as necessary. Completes necessary repairs. Completes work order forms and other required paperwork. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Is responsible for heating systems water treatment. Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, 251 days per year. Monday through Friday is considered to be the normal workweek. Emergency conditions may arise which will require attention at any hour of the day or night. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as follows: Grade 12: Must have at least one required license/certification and five years relevant experience Grade 13: Must have at least two required licenses/certifications and ten years relevant experience Grade 14: Must have all required licenses/certificates and ten years relevant experience, with two years experience with Idaho Falls School District 91. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of the classified personnel. This position has been given an overall classification of heavy duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
