HomeMy WebLinkAboutMusic Paraprofessional - ElemMarch 2005 TITLE: Elementary Music Paraprofessional QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated knowledge relative to teaching the basics of music – melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and note reading. Ability to organize instructional activities, promotional activities, and general program management activities. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To develop in each student an appreciation of music and to help students develop musical knowledge and skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares and delivers lessons in accordance with the district music curriculum. Teaches the basics of music – melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and note reading. Develops students’ singing voices. Correlates music with other aspects of the curriculum, such as language arts, social studies, science, and art. Works with the elementary music teacher and Building Administrator to provide appropriate music instruction. Encourages and motivates the enjoyment and appreciation of various styles of music by listening and evaluating. Provides music methods and materials as a resource to teachers and students. Assists with class and/or school productions. Works with other specialists in planning and preparing activities and lessons for classes. Assists classroom teachers in coordinating the music education curriculum. Assists school administration in providing special performing groups for special occasions, PTO meetings, assemblies, and district music events as requested. Attends inservice classes, building meetings, and district meetings as requested. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the school and budgetary constraints. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 4. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
