Previous experience or training working with people with disabilities. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and transfer students weighing up to 200 pounds with the assistance of appropriate equipment. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Patient, yet firm. High School Diploma preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To provide personal care to special education students with severe disabilities to provide them with the support they need to gain full benefits from the District’s special education program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists SDRR students with personal grooming needs including toileting and changing diapers as needed. Transfers students from wheelchairs to changing table. Assists with feeding of students. Helps SDRR students move about the school building. Assists in any physical or occupational therapies as directed. Assists SDRR students in class participation, use of adaptive materials and monitors students’ progress. Records required data accurately. Strives to improve and maintain job skills through inservice training programs and other means. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitors appropriate behavior in mainstream classes. Prepares class materials as requested. Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the school and budgetary constraints. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 4 with a CNA or a Grade 3 without a CNA. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of heavy duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
