HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Program AideMay 2009 TITLE: Special Program Aide QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Patient, yet firm. Mandt training or the ability to complete Mandt training. Able to lift up to 50 pounds and transfer heavier students with the assistance of appropriate equipment. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To work closely with special education students on a regular basis to provide them with the support they need to gain full benefits from the District’s special education program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Helps the teacher provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. Prepares for classroom activities under the supervision of the Teacher. Works with small groups of students to reinforce materials initially introduced by the teacher. Assists individual children in need of special attention and children who need consistent behavior management techniques. Performs clerical duties relating to their assignment. Guides independent assignments established by the teacher. Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, collects data, and supervises testing and make-up work. Assists in duties relating to the supervision of students as assigned by the Building Principal. Helps prepare class displays and bulletin boards. Constructs supplementary materials for use in the classroom under the teacher’s supervision. Strives to improve and maintain job skills through inservice training programs and other means. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the school and budgetary constraints. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 3. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty. 1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100% Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds **Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
