HomeMy WebLinkAboutDebate Coach - High SchoolFebruary 2001 TITLE: Debate Coach – High School QUALIFICATIONS: Holds a valid Idaho Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in speech and debate. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To help each participating student gain and refine analytical and public speaking skills and have a positive experience that will increase self-esteem. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches and coaches students in the rules and techniques of debate and forensics within the guidelines established by the Conference and IHSAA. Supervises a minimum of one debate tournament per year. Establishes and oversees a budget for the competitive debate program. Supervises fundraisers to provide for additional debate expenses, i.e. travel, lodging. Makes arrangements for entry fees and judges’ fees to be paid in a timely manner. Establishes a competitive schedule of debate meets with the cooperation of the administration and within guidelines established by the IHSAA. Provides itineraries for debate trips. Chaperones and supervises students on all trips and at all tournaments. Maintains a direct line of communication with administration. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employed annually under the Debate Coach stipend as per the Stipend Schedule as listed in the Negotiated Master Contract between Idaho Falls School District 91 and the Idaho Falls Education Association. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator as part of the teacher evaluation process in accordance with the Negotiated Master Contract.
