HomeMy WebLinkAboutMathcounts Advisor - Jr HighFebruary 2001 TITLE: Math Counts Advisor– Junior High QUALIFICATIONS: Holds a valid Idaho Teaching Certificate. Proficiency in explaining and demonstrating math concepts and problem solving techniques to seventh and eighth grade students. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To advise and provide leadership for students involved in the Mathcounts Program. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Determines the qualified individuals from the incoming seventh grade class in the spring. Qualifications are based on results of the ITBS scores and the District 6th Grade Math Test. Orders the Mathcounts materials for the year. Organizes a summer session to introduce the incoming seventh grade students to the program. Prepares and presents weekly lessons in an organized, interesting manner. Determines through testing and weekly observance which students are qualified to represent the school on the main team and the alternate team in the regional competition. Organizes trips to regional and state competitions. Communicates with team members and parents regularly regarding scheduled Mathcounts activities. Arranges for appropriate transportation to and from meets. Accompanies the team to all scheduled meets and activities. Establishes and oversees a budget for the Mathcounts Team. Maintains a direct line of communication with administration. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employed annually under the Mathcounts Advisor stipend as per the Stipend Schedule as listed in the Negotiated Master Contract between Idaho Falls School District 91 and the Idaho Falls Education Association. VII. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator as part of the teacher evaluation process in accordance with the Negotiated Master Contract.
