HomeMy WebLinkAboutNetwork Manager Job DescriptionSeptember 2010 TITLE: Network Manager QUALIFICATIONS: Four-year degree in network or computer related field preferred. Two year associates degree in networking or equivalent required. Industry standard certification in networking preferred (Security +, Network+, CCNA). Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Strong organizational skills. Experiences in most or all of these areas is preferred: Able to work with enterprise level network and domain-based systems The following PC and/or server operating systems: Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, Apple Macintosh. Network design, administration, and protocols Typical TCP/IP client-server applications such as telnet, ftp, tftp, smtp, http, ssh, etc. Internet administration using firewalls and filters Router and switch configuration and management Windows and Apple Macintosh application software such as Microsoft Office, etc. Experience with MS Active Directory, MS Group Policy, MS Exchange, etc. Experience with VMWare ESX3.x/4.x Experience with enterprise-level VoIP telephone systems Experience with Backup systems i.e. Backup Exec, vRanger, Deduplication Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Systems Administrator JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. Helps design, monitor and administer the district's network and major network applications and provide training to appropriate district staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages and designs the district's network under the direction of Systems Administrator. Provides pro-active network monitoring, security and troubleshooting in order to provide maximum speed, availability, and prioritization of resource utilization. Configures and manage network routers, switches and servers. Installs and manages Cisco Access Control Server – (Radius). Installs and manages wireless devices including authentication and security. Installs and manages Cisco Call Manager VOIP phone system and associated systems such as MS Exchange and Cisco Unity Servers. Assumes primary responsibility for printer services including hardware selection recommendations, print server management, printer setup, quota setup, usage reporting, etc. Installs and manages firewalls and filters. Assists Systems Administrator with the selection, installation, and management of e-mail servers, directory services, and user accounts. Assists Systems Administrator with the installation, monitoring, and management of both physical and virtual server environments Manages IP addressing and ACLs. Installs and manages network application and monitoring software. Provides information to Technology staff needed to prepare grant applications involving networking such as e-rate applications. Maintains familiarity of all system operations of the technology center in order to provide backup to other technology center staff. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 14 - 16. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Systems Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
