Valid Idaho Class “B” commercial driver’s license with school bus, air brake, and passenger endorsement. Certified in CPR and first aid. Ability to complete required paperwork. Physically capable of performing assigned duties. Ability to work with staff, students and the public. Clean driving record, no traffic tickets or chargeable accidents for the last three years. No convictions for DUI involving alcohol or drugs. Previous experience driving a school bus is mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To assist supervisors in enabling each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the District. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in training bus drivers in safe driving techniques and pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with Federal and State Transportation Regulations. Performs riding evaluations of drivers and aides. Reviews student citations and conducts conferences as needed. Assists in performing bus evacuation drills. Serves as a liaison with drivers and schools, mechanics, patrons, etc. Assists in resolving complaints and/or concerns from patrons, principals, teachers, coaches, etc. Inspects buses for cleanliness and ensures that drivers are completing required paperwork and pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Assists in keeping all route sheets and itineraries up to date. Coordinates bus inspection reports and repairs with drivers and mechanics. Responds to traffic accidents involving school buses as requested and assists driver in making sure all procedures are followed and proper reports are completed. Performs the duties of a substitute bus driver as needed. Reports and submits stop arm violations to proper authorities. Manages and maintains special education and preschool routes. Trains and assigns bus aides to special needs and preschool routes. Manages summer school routes. Assists in the review of loading zones, stops, and the safety and efficiency of the bus routes. Makes recommendations to the Transportation Supervisor. Answers questions and makes decisions as needed in the absence of the Transportation Supervisor. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the Transportation Supervisor, the dispatcher and the mechanics as needed. Maintains spare buses. Assists with Space Shuttle and Technology buses. Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, 190 days per year. Monday through Friday is considered the normal workweek. Emergency conditions may arise that will require attention at any hour of the day or night. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Transportation Salary Schedule as a Grade 8. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. This “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
