Desired Qualifications: Bilingual Spanish/English Previous training in non-violent intervention techniques Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and basic skills in counseling practices and methods. Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities conducted. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written and electronic documents. Ability to clearly communicate, both in person and by telephone. Ability to travel to meetings, other school sites, and administrative offices. Ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships. Ability to present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to students, staff and parents. Ability to receive and utilizing constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation, and relationships with others. Ability to effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, client needs, and the aims and policies of the District and to respond and to negotiate these competing needs as appropriate. Ability to main calm, supportive and professional in psychological emergencies and/or crises. An enhanced level of self-awareness as to how he or she relates to others and an ability to effectively modulate this personal style as conditions warrant. Knowledge of professional ethical standards and a commitment to keeping and working within these ethical standards. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO: Building AdministratorJOB GOALS:To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. Under the direct supervision of a credentialed school counselor, provides counseling services to pupils and parents.  Uses counseling and consultation techniques to promote pupil motivation and adjustment to school, community, and home environments.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Implements the philosophy, goals, policies, and objectives of the school district as adopted by the Board of Education. Assists teachers in creating a flexible program and classroom environment which enhances individual growth. Assists teachers in motivating pupils to develop the skills and attitudes which promote the acquisition of knowledge and participation in a democratic society. Provides services to pupils through consultation, individual and group counseling, and classroom involvement. Assists pupils in making academic progress consistent with their abilities. Counsels pupils and their parents regarding matters relating to learning attitude. Attends IEP meetings when appropriate. Assists the Assessment Coordinator in SAT/PSAT/AMSQT and ISAT assessments. Supports School with 504 implementation. Complete all required District clinical documentation via electronic recordkeeping system within the same day. Act as a District resource to school site principals and staff as needed and/or requested.Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.Has regular and predictable attendance.Essential Functions- required with or without a reasonable accommodation:Effective communication capabilities to discern verbal conversation.Comprehend the meaning of words and respond effectively.Visual acuity to comprehend written work, prepare, review, and organize documents and observe classroom and student activities.Manual dexterity to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment.Personal mobility, flexibility, and balance which permits the employee to work in a school environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs. occasionally.Job tasks require occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs all other duties as assigned.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:This is a full-time position scheduled for 7 hours a day, 190 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 14GR5.This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION:Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
